The African automobile market has just met the newest Volvo entry level model ?the Volvo S40 2.0. According to Volvo Cars, this new vehicle has been created just right so as to pique the interests of the young ones in the market who are out searching for the right kind of vehicle that they could own.
Priced at only R215,000 in the continent of Africa, it sure would be a good buy for most young buyers. And this price has actually gotten the Volvo S40 2.0 model quite a huge amount of recognition from the South African Guild of Motoring Journalists last year, 2005. And the value for money proved to be a huge factor for the organization that it gave the Car of the Year award for that year to the Volvo S40 2.0.
The Volvo newest model to hit the African auto market has subjected to changes so as to make it more interesting for the market. Although it does not come ready with a package of Volvo V90 parts that would also be great replacements for the parts of this vehicle, the features for this vehicle are quite remarkable. The Volvo S40 2.0 offers standard equipment like a rain sensor, fog lights, an electronic climate control system, and a trip computer. Those who need entertainment while traveling would surely enjoy the standard Performance sound system. One can also find the steering wheel dotted with control buttons for various functions. The rear view mirror which has an auto-dim feature has now been created to be much wider.
And with Volvo being known much for its vehicles that are very much inclined towards providing the right kind and the right amount of safety for its passengers and owners, the Volvo S40 2.0 holds the Whiplash Protection System, or WHIPS. It also offers some full-length curtain airbags which have been specially designed so as to protect the car’s passengers during side impacts.

Tata, Hindustan, Geely, Proton, and Chery are not yet household names. Two of these names will become well known in 2007 as their cars are sold in the U.S. for the first time. As for the other three, you can expect that they are also eyeing the American market.
Chinese Cars, Indian cars, Malaysian cars, Hindustan Motors, Proton Motors, Tata Motors, Indica V2
The Asian automobile manufacturing market is much broader than many American consumers understand it to be. Beyond Honda, Hyundai, Toyota, and other household names there are quite a few automakers that are growing in size and respectability in their own markets. Two of these companies have already committed to selling their models in the U.S., but there are three others worth knowing about and watching.
Starting in 2007, two Chinese automobile manufacturers will be exporting cars to the U.S. and Canada. Geely Automobile Company and the Chery Automobile Company are part of the first wave of new Asian automakers preparing to serve the U.S. market. I won’t go into more detail about these two manufacturers, so please read a related article I wrote titled, “Chinese Cars: Redefining the Market,?to learn more about them.
Proton — Proton Holdings, the parent corporation of Proton Motors, is the largest manufacturer of vehicles in Malaysia. Volkswagen and Proton signed a strategic partnership agreement in October 2004 whereby Volkswagen cars would be built on Proton assembly lines beginning in 2006. Apart from the VW venture, Proton has a line of models of its own consisting primarily of subcompact and compact sized vehicles. Proton cars are currently exported to Australia and the company is eyeing the U.S. market perhaps as early as 2010. In addition to its VW relationship, Japanese automaker Mitsubishi owns nearly a 16% share in Proton.
Hindustan — Since 1950, Hindustan Motors has been building cars for the Indian market. Their current line up of automobiles, looking as if they were built in the 1950s, do not match up to current world styling standards. However, the emerging Indian economy has been providing remarkable growth across all business sectors and the Indian automobile industry is ripe for renewal. The Ambassador Grand, one such model, has recently been updated to meet current European emissions standards. Look for a Hindustan model to be exported to Europe first before taking on the highly competitive U.S. market.
Tata — Unlike Hindustan Motors, India’s Tata Motors is currently producing cars that look as if they were designed recently. As the only Indian car company featuring cars built and designed by Indians, the company’s Indica V2 and Indigo compacts have received a favorable reception at the Geneva Auto Show. Plans to export directly to the U.S. have been considered but Tata cars may get to the U.S. under another label before then, such as Ford or Dodge.
Beyond these five companies other state run automobile manufacturing companies have sprung up in communist controlled China. If Geely and Chery succeed, more makes will follow and the floodgates will be open. More choice is coming for consumersÂ…for better or for worse.

Splat! There goes your clean windshield. In moments, your car is peppered with finish ruining bug juice. What to do? These two handy accessories can help you keep the bug population at bay.
Lund, bug deflector, bug shield, car cover, car bra, carwash supplies, Deflecta, hood protector
Here in the southern U.S., we residents are used to a bug population that can only make an anteater smack his lips. From about early April to the first frost, bugs outnumber people about 1000 to 1. Some would say 1 million to 1. Quite frankly, bugs are everywhere: in the yard, in the house, on your car, etc. Products containing DEET help, but they can do nothing to protect your car. Think I am exaggerating? Just drive down any southern back road at dusk and see how long it takes for your windshield and hood to be splattered with bug juice. It can get so bad that no amount of windshield washer fluid can keep up with it all. What to do? Well, if you are like many motorists you get some protection for your car. No, I am not saying to spray it with a can of OFF! or drive around with a car cover on it. Instead, there are two must have accessories that can and will make a difference. You’ll have to read on to find out just what I am talking about.
Car bras ?Some call them hood protectors while others call them car bras. Regardless, this particular accessory provides the greatest protection for the front end of most any passenger vehicle. Customized for your vehicle, car bras slip over the front end, covering the grille and the adjoining section of the hood. Some car bras are designed to extend further up the hood almost to the windshield. Some consist of two part sections that permit motorists to access the hood without taking off the bra, while others are a one piece accessory that must be removed before opening the hood. Both styles are effective in deflecting bugs from the grille and can protect a portion of the hood.
Bug deflectors ?Also called bug shields, bug deflectors function chiefly to guard your hood and windshield from bug debris. Furthermore, some bug deflectors can repel other small objects including stones kicked up from the road which can then break your windshield. A bug deflector is installed at the top part of your grille at the point where the grille meets the front part of your vehicle’s hood. Like car bras, bug deflectors are sized for the particular brand and model you own, though there are some models that can be custom cut and sized by consumers too. Typically, a heavy-duty double adhesive tape fastens the deflector in place, as a result no drilling is required.
Usually, drivers put in one or the other accessory on their vehicles and not both as a bug deflector must adhere to the car itself; it cannot stay in place if fastened to part of the bra. However, some bras are designed with a lip installed that sits across the hood of your vehicle, acting as a mini bug deflector all of its own.
So, if you live in the South or you are planning a trip down here, protect your vehicle before you leave your home. A car bra or a bug shield will do a very good job in reducing bug splatter and keep you from going through gallons of windshield washer fluid while protecting your car’s finish.

You will find different rates for every car as it’s according to there model and use you have to select the car which will satisfy your need in your budget, it means getting a reasonably good dependable car for as little money as possible.
There is also risks in cheap used cars unfortunately, the older the used car and the less it costs, the higher the possibility that the buyer will encounter problems and expenses that were not anticipated.
To reduce your tension after you have purchased your used car, it’s even more important to follow the suggestions in our Used Car Buying Guide. It means the older the car, the more effort you should take to make sure the car is in good condition and will be reliable for the time you intend to own it.
Before you decide to purchase a used car it important to get that car inspect by the technical person who has good knowledge about the automobile parts and its performance. June 15th this year would be the day when the Boy Scouts of America’s Cascade Pacific Council would be honoring the Ford Motor Company. The company would be given by the mentioned council as the Motorsports Company of the Year. Such an event would take place during the council’s 17th annual Motorsports Breakfast which would be held in Portland, Oregon. In fact, this breakfast is actually done as part of the activities and events of the Grand Prix of Portland which is an annual stop of the Bridgestone Presents The Champ Car World Series Powered by Ford.
It was Ron Bennett who presented and gave the Motorsports Company of the Year award to the Ford Motor Company. Ron Bennett is one of the members of the Motorsports Breakfast Steering Committee. While honoring the company, he declares, “There are many similarities between the Ford Motor Company and the Boy Scouts. The perfect example is the Pinewood Derby. We both exercise imaginations and learn about the trials and tribulations of building the perfect race car. From designing the vehicle, placing the weights and even developing paint schemes, the Scouts prepare for their races in much the same way our engineers test and develop our race cars.?
This award is an honor that is recognized well enough by the company. In fact, Jamie Allison, the manager for the Ford Racing Performance Group, had something to say about this. He states, “It is an honor to be recognized by the Cascade Pacific Council, Boy Scouts of America. I am privileged to accept this award on behalf of Dan Davis, Director of Ford Racing Technology and Ford Racing. It is a great honor for us to be recognized by an organization that has such an impact on the young people of the Portland area and across the country.?With the various kinds of awards and accolades that the company has received through the years, this award would be another one that would be part of the company’s treasure.

Owning an antique car is a dream shared by many men and women. Cruising down the street in a classic car not only turns a few heads it makes you feel great knowing that you’ve invested in something of value.
For many people they decide to restore the antique car they’ve purchased. They know that even though it involves a lot of time and work, the end result is well worth the effort.
One of the first things to consider if you are planning on taking on the restoration of an antique car as a hobby is where you’ll go to find parts. Antique car parts can be difficult to find. You generally can’t walk into your automotive supply store and request the part. Instead you have to do a bit of research to find out where the antique car parts you need can be purchased.
The first place to go to research antique car parts is the internet. Pull up a search page and type in the phrase “antique car parts?followed by your city. With any luck several results will pop up that will give you a resource locally.
If the results of the search aren’t as favorable you can begin to research online stores that specialize in antique car parts.
There are several companies who work with their customers to find the antique car parts they need. They are much like a locator service. You request a part and they put the leg work in to find out where the part can be purchased from. You then pay them a finder’s fee and purchase the particular antique car part from the source they quoted.
There are also companies whose focus is strictly in antique car parts. They compile a vast collection of varied parts and offer them to their customers through their website or store front. There will be additional charges for shipping but if you’ve been having trouble locating a specific part this can be a welcomed resource.
Another source for finding antique car parts is your local newspapers. Sometimes collectors decide to sell off certain parts. You simply peruse the listings and contact the seller asking about the condition of the antique car part you are searching for and the price. Quite often they are excited to help you with your project and will offer you a reasonable price for the required part.
Sometimes you can find a treasure in an unexpected place. Auto wreckers often have antique cars in their lots. These are cars that were not restored and they reached such a debilitated condition that they are now being used strictly for parts.
Some auto wreckers keep a very close inventory on what is on their property. In this case you’ll simply need to call them and inquire about the part citing the type of antique car you have and what you need. They’ll search their computer database and be able to tell you whether or not they can supply you that antique car part.
Other auto wreckers prefer their customers to come to their location and look over the vehicles themselves. You’ll want to take a few tools with you just in case you do locate the part you are searching for. The majority of auto wrecking operations require the customer remove the desired part themselves.
Although it can be tricky to find the antique car parts you need, with a little research you should get what you need to completely restore the vehicle.

Due to the rising cost of fuel and the environmental damage it causes to our planet, many car owners or buyers are looking for an alternative way to save money. Let’s face it, fuel supply is finite and the prices of gas is only going to rise higher and higher. That is where a hybrid car has its advantages
Hybrid cars have been gaining in popularity in recent years. With lower cost of production and new hybrid car technology being developed, owning a hybrid car is becoming affordable to everyone.
Hybrid Cars Saves Gas
The obvious advantage of using hybrid cars is that it saves gas. Combining the cleaner energy of an electric motor with the long range capacity of a gasoline engine allows a hybrid car to save as much as 30 miles a gallon. One feature of hybrid cars is that the gasoline engine is shut off automatically when the car stops. This also helps in saving fuel. That is also the reason why hybrid cars are so quiet why it is stationary. The gasoline engine is automatically turned on when you step on the accelerator pedal.
Hybrid Cars Are Environment Friendly
Hybrid cars emit lower toxic emissions compared to conventional gasoline-powered cars due to less gasoline being burned. It is environmentally friendly, causes less pollution and releases less carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. If you do not know, carbon dioxide is one of the primary reasons for rising global warming. For example, the Toyota Prius can reduce tailpipe emissions by up to ninety percent and the greenhouse gas emissions by as much as fifty percent.
Tax Incentives For Hybrid Cars
Due to world political pressures around the world to reduce greenhouse emissions, President Bush signed an agreement in 2005 to provide huge tax relief to hybrid car buyers. The tax incentive varies by model and are based on two factors
1. How fuel efficient the hybrid car is compared to a conventional car in 2002 with the same weight class.
2. How much gasoline the hybrid car can save in its lifetime compared with an equivalent conventional car
For example, a Honda Accord hybrid car have reduced tax credits of $600 while a Toyota Prius has a tax credit of $3150. Do note that the tax credits do expire after 2010 for most hybrid cars.
Hybrid car manufacturers are continually researching for more ways to reduce fuel consumption and better fuel efficiency. Also as more hybrid cars are being adopted, the cost of hybrid cars will reduce making it more affordable for everyone.

Is your car a pocket rocket? How does it perform next to the competition? You can outfit your car with performance enhancing parts to transform it into a true road racer.
Honda, Chevrolet, performance chips, Jet Chips, Hypertech, Ford, Chrysler, Dodge, Plymouth, Kia, Hyundai, Buick, Oldsmobile, BMW, Audi, VW, Mercedes, Jaguar, Pontiac, Toyota, Nissan, Suzuki, Opel
Just because your car is small, doesn’t mean that it has to be slow. In fact, some of the fastest cars on the road today are subcompacts. How so? Because their owners have modified them to the point where they can squeeze out additional horsepower and acceleration. Let’s take a look at six cars that qualify as genuine “pocket rockets.?
For the sake of argument, here are some ground rules for a pocket rocket:
The car must be a compact or smaller.
The engine must be normally aspirated; no turbo charged cars ?four cylinders only.
New versions of the car must all retail for less than $20,000.
The following six cars all qualify as pocket rockets when each of the above stipulations has been met:
Dodge Neon; Ford Focus; Honda Civic; Scion tC; Subaru Impreza; and Volkswagen Golf.
Unfortunately, the Mitsubishi Eclipse retails for just above $20,000 so it does not qualify. Besides, it looks too much like a sports car; we are only examining those vehicles that are somewhat plain before being transformed by aftermarket parts.
Dodge Neon ?Technically, the Neon is no longer in production as 2005 was its last model year. Still, with a 2.0L 132hp engine, the Neon remains an affordable favorite of the youth set who enjoy customizing their vehicles
Ford Focus ?A lemon no more! Earlier models of the Focus were problem plagued, but the car has made significant strides in the past few years and has received Consumer Report’s recommended buy label too. The stubby ZX3 produces 136 horses with its 2.0L engine
Honda Civic ?Redesigned for 2006, the Civic has been a fan favorite for over thirty years. Its teeny 1.8L engine pushes out an impressive 140 horses. The new Civic is a far cry from the “pregnant roller?skate look of the first Civics. Owners are grateful.
Scion tC- Unlike its two boxy brethren, the tC is sleek looking and has a rocket demeanor. With a 2.3L under its hood, the tC has the second largest engine of any car in this class. You net 160 horses with the Scion.
Subaru Impreza ?The biggest car in this class has the most powerful engine, a 2.5L boxter engine producing 173 horses. Very competitive with larger and more powerful cars, but a favorite among “pocket rocket?fans nevertheless.
VW Golf ?A 2.0L 115hp drives the Golf, but the car’s light weight allows for it to buzz down the highway at a fairly good clip.
Favorite ways of squeezing out additional power for pocket rocket owners include installing the following aftermarket parts:
Reusable air filters; top providers include: K&N and Green.
Cold air intake systems; favorites include: K&N, AEM, and Airaid.
Cat-back exhaust systems; leading manufacturers include: Magnaflow and Vibrant.
Performance chips; Hypertech and Jet Chips lead the way.
Performance level increases are measured in horsepower, thrust, and acceleration. Depending on the parts installed and model selected, improvements can range from slight to significant. Regardless, all six models have the potential of becoming true pocket rockets and that is part of the thrill in owning one.

Kia’s Rondo is all set for production and will soon be appearing on streets across the U.S. Read all about this hot little crossover vehicle from Korea’s budget automaker.
Kia Rondo, Kia Carnens, Hyundai, APC, Hella, PIAA, auto parts, car parts, Dodge, Plymouth, Chery, GM
Kia is planning to bring to the American market a new type of vehicle ?a seven passenger crossover ?that will compete against the likes of the Toyota Matrix and the Dodge Caliper. The Kia Carens will be sold later this year in Europe and will likely make it to the U.S. market as the Kia Rondo at about the same time. Demand for crossovers continues to rise as the market adjusts to this relatively new type of vehicle. Will the Rondo succeed? If early press reports are any indication then the answer is yes.
Kia’s aggressive surge on the world scene is being made evident through new or proposed factories in Europe and in Georgia, USA. As a subsidiary of the mighty Hyundai group, Kia has long stood for being the budget Korean brand while Hyundai is the company’s value brand. The proposed Rondo will continue Kia’s tradition of providing decent quality small vehicles for prices that are thousands of dollars less than the competition.
Importantly, the Rondo crossover will fit nicely into a category of vehicles that have yet to take the U.S. by storm: mini-minivans. Popular in Europe, these compact vans are much smaller than current American minivans, yet still able to hold as many as 7 adults. With three passenger row seating, the Rondo and others like it squeeze out every possible square inch of interior space to accommodate passengers. No, you won’t ride in luxury and the ride itself will be closer to a Corolla than to a Camry, but Kia is banking on consumers wanting a well appointed 7 passenger vehicle that will likely retail for under $20,000. No vehicle currently offered in the U.S. can claim to carry that many people for that small of a price. Clearly, Kia aims to be the first company to accomplish that feat.
Unlike most upcoming vehicles, Kia is holding information about the Rondo close to the vest. With China’s Chery also preparing to send a similar vehicle to the U.S., Kia’s reticence is certainly understandable. Why give the competition more information than what is necessarily needed at this point in the game?
Likely, a pair of gas powered four cylinder engines mated to various manual and automatic transmissions will power the Rondo. No diesel version has been discussed for the U.S. market, but one is possible for European motorists.
In addition, look for Kia to offer better standard equipment choices with the Rondo than previous models have offered including, standard side and head air bags, dual zone air conditioning, and possibly all wheel drive on a premium model.
Yes, Kia is no longer just a producer of cheap subcompacts. With the soon to arrive Rondo, Kia is attempting to expand its growing line by offering a vehicle like no other one on the market.
